Lake Quinsigamond in Shrewsbury, Mass., has a surface area of 770 acres, is 4 miles long & oddly shaped. This can make rescue a challenge. So to resolve this problem, the local fire department got a hovercraft. This enables rescuers to travel across the lake frozen or liquid.

“In warmer weather, you have the police boat on the lake. Obviously, it’s in shrink-wrap right now,” Fire Chief Jim Vuona said. “The advantage of the hovercraft is it can go over broken ice.”

The steam engines really brings “fighting fire with fire” to life.
