A motorcycle waiting to merge into traffic (what else was he waiting there for?) was struck by a car. The bike went flying. The cyclist more so. Luckily an ambulance pulled up just in time. Would’ve been interesting if this ambulance came.

SEATTLE

Hybrid & electric cars are increasing their numbers on the road. But this means that more MVA’s involve these cars. Firefighters have unique concerns in these situations, such as electrocution, an exploding battery & the lack of noise when a car is running & even moving.  So firefighters in Seattle are getting trained by car experts on battery-charged electric & hybrid cars. 

FYI, electrocution & exploding batteries are not such a big concern. The silent engine is.

Lake Quinsigamond in Shrewsbury, Mass., has a surface area of 770 acres, is 4 miles long & oddly shaped. This can make rescue a challenge. So to resolve this problem, the local fire department got a hovercraft. This enables rescuers to travel across the lake frozen or liquid.

“In warmer weather, you have the police boat on the lake. Obviously, it’s in shrink-wrap right now,” Fire Chief Jim Vuona said. “The advantage of the hovercraft is it can go over broken ice.”
